Bottle 5 - Fiji

Bula! (hello in fiji)

Long time, no talk. Ok only a week, but wowzers, I miss yall. :) Well, only alittle.

I gotta say, I am unfortunatly uninspired to write right now but I will do my best.

First: People. Indeed, people are people and there shall be thy ruffles. But all in all everyone gets along in some way and the community seems to be doing pretty good. I have some good friends, but none like my buddies back home. Basically their people who I can have a good talk with but I can’t really talk to. If that made any sense…

Second: Journal. I have started my journal and apart from yesterday I have wrote in it everyday. So… That will probably be passed around at christmas.

Third: Books. Read “Running with Sissors” if you have the chance. Possibly the most messed up memoir I have ever read, but hey, it inspired me to write in my journal. And my Mom can attest to how hard that is. So read it. :) Its good.

Fourth: School. Well, school’s school but hey this one rocks. Sure classes can get tiring sometimes and I ain’t gonna lie, I am not looking forward to Chem 30 next semester. But I shall deal and all shall be well. It just means I have to actually study. So far I have been doing quite well in my courses. Apart from that alls well.

Fifth: Pirate, er, shipman, er… Seaman? Anyways, I am slowly becoming a seaman and I am loving it. Definatly a future career possibility. Tis my true love. :) Lots of sail manuevers. I am going for high altitude club.

Sixth: What is this numbers thing anyways?  I saw Step Up yesterday in Fiji.  Yea, I had to go to a movie theater…  Too much time since I last had crappy popcorn.  Yummmm melted plastic…  I mean, butter of course.

Seventh: Well…  I think ima finish this here, as I am running low on energy and I wouldn’t mind getting back to life.  Have a great week and I shall speak to yall latah.

Peace out,

Heh Cap’n. Would love some pics of our seafaring son on the yardarms. Turning into a true sailor matey! Granpa would be proud. Your Norwegian roots are showing…

Back from oz, supper hot 37C, sounds like you are enjoying life as the ship sails from island to island, I will send email and tell you about my new yacht venture down south. LJ

I know you’ve heard it before, but it needs to be said anyway. I’m glad you’re having fun cap’n. I understand that feeling of talking to people without really “talking” to them. It’s the whole open up thing. I would just give it a bit of time and that’ll probably pass.

I think I’ll just go check “Running with Scissors” now. It’ll probably be worth the read.

That’s depressing. The first movie you see since leaving port was “Step Up”? I’m sorry. If was there, it wouldn’t have happened!

I’m glad to hear classes are fun and people are deal-with-able. I’m sure you’ll become better friends with them. It happened at school. They’re never as good as your truly best friends, but it does get better.

We should get a picture of you swinging like Spiderman from the rigging. I would pay to see that. Tarzan Carl!

  8. Aunty Canuck Says:

Gald you are having the time of your young life!
Matey Alex is enjoying himself too.
    Keep up the writing.

Carl I am with Jason… I want to see you in action, so I can truly understand the awesomeness of Pirate Carl! The thing about talking I definately know what you mean, but most of the time people are only at that level because they don’t know each other well enough. So there is still quite a bit of promise for you to have at least someone you grow closer to over the next few weeks. Weren’t there any other movies at the theatre?! Step Up?! Poor Carl. Carl will you write me a letter? Because I just thought it would be really cool. Or just like a postcard. Plus I decided that it is just about Dec. that we will all go into truly unbearable Carl denial, so it is a good time to come home. Have fun in New Caledonia! Don’t really know what that is but sounds interesting…and new? I really wouldn’t know.

  10. Scallywag Travis Says:

glad to hear it carl, i can’t believe you are half way around the world, i am glad to hear that you are having a good time

  11. Scallywag Travis Says:

Carl you will be thrilled to know, that the first time since you have left we went rock climbing (YAY)

  12. Jace on Says:

Yeah, what happened to the Old Caledonia? Why did they need a replacement?

  13. Hannah Says:

haha just what i was thinking jason.

and carl! we went rockclimbing yesterday for the first time in like 129317298371298371982 years! we so missed you. like the entire time it was HEY remember when carl could climb that one in like .5 seconds?? yeah.

haha. and aw they took down the black one that you use to be able to do all hands.

  14. Jace on Says:

    Yeaaaahahhhhhh.

But it wasn’t as embarassing as I had feared it would be. I could do most of the old standards, like that red one with the big reach. But I couldn’t do the grey/purple crack on. Oooh, and I dominated this new hard brown route on the shaft.
    I felt skilled.

That is, until I woke up this morning and felt SORE. Owie.
Running on Saturday and rockclimbing on Sunday will do that to you.

  15. First Mate "Random" Robertson Says:

Uh…Step Up? Gross. On a lighter note, glad to hear you’re having a good time, sounds like you’re destined to become a great pirate after all. I would like to officially put in my application as part of your rambuncious (spell check??) crew, and will happyly follow you to the death, matey. Funny you should mention “Running with Scissors”, it’s just come out here in good ole movie form, and I was definatly planning to check it out. Prehaps I’ll stick to the book.

Missing you as always, X-mas will rock.
